Many Faces

Ode to Alice:

While you are a sausage,

You are very purry...

Stop eating the tomato plants,

They don't purr when you do that.

Your offense to the amount of food in your bowl

In comparison to the drag queen Oliver,

Is a reflection of your waistline.

And not our love.

Happy Wednesday, y'all!

Eyebrows Raised

Oliver has really long eyebrow whiskers.

I need a nap. It's 6:30 a.m. and I need a nap. Oliver just threw up a hairball at my feet. Literally, like just right now. I think I might throw up. I was all set to write a lovely, beautiful, inspiring post today.

I hope this isn't an indication of what the day holds...

I hope no one comes in and throws up at your feet today.

Louisiana Swamp Up In HERE!

I walked into our bathroom this evening while I was talking to my dad on the phone and I discovered THIS at the very tip top of the wall. We have like 14' ceilings in this place. He is still in there. I'm just hoping the cats don't discover him and make him their after dinner snack. EEK!

But isn't he pretty? In a get him out of my house PLEASE sort of way!

I'm so dependent on Kev to take care of all the buggies and creepy crawlies. Oy. And don't get me started on the cockroaches.

We also had a firefly in the kitchen. So peaceful by the refrigerator. I went to get the camera to take a picture. Next thing I knew, CatZiLLa was eating him.

I so wish Kev was home right now to make sure the lizard stays a lizard for another day.

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend!

It's FISH TV!

Thanks to C & C, we are now the proud owners of a new, old TV. Except this TV only has one station available. It's Fish TV! C took this vintage television apart and put an aquarium in it. The kitties now have their very own channel to watch. Especially the show that features "The Captain".

Here is Alice, enthralled with her new favorite TV show, a.k.a. lunch. They will sit for hours admiring the fish. I think Kev and I enjoy Fish TV! as much as the kitties do.

"The Captain" is short for Captain Vince Lombardi Trophy, III. You know, since the Saints won the Super Bowl, we thought it was appropriate to commemorate this memorable time with a fish. He's a Beta. Very pretty.

Also featured on Fish TV! are the 5 neon tetras (they haven't told us their names yet), and a few new additions including 3 Cherry Barbs and Bert and Ernie, the Rainbow Fish. We also had a Plecostomus named Dr. Gonzo, but he went to fish heaven the other morning. :(

Fish TV! even has a theme song:

Fish TV!
Fish TV!
FISHY FISHY FISHY FISHY
FISH TV!

The whole family is really digging the new addition to our home. I just hope the kitties don't figure out how to open the top of the TV and have a snack!

Lazy Caturday

Kevin is working today, like always. At least someone is making some money around here! I found Oliver on the bed, taking a lovely cat nap. As you can tell, he is perfectly relaxed and airing out all his kitty bits. I know, why would I ever discuss kitty bits on my blog, but I think it is hilarious when they roll on their backs and put their bellies to the sky. I think that if there is reincarnation, I would like to come back as a cat who has owners like Kevin and me. That is definitely the cush life.

So, here's to a lazy Caturday! (And no, it's not Saturday - it's Caturday for all you ICHC fans.) I hope you get to take a nap or accomplish whatever projects you have set out to accomplish. I think I'm going to tackle some laundry and dishes and maybe bake some cookies. (If I can talk Monkey Peeler, Jamie Hayes Devil Doll, and Mr. Toucan into helping!)

Cheers!

Lions and Tigers and Fleas - OH MY!!

Yuck. Gross. Poor babies! Our cat Alice has not been acting like herself lately. She normally is very sweet and wants lots of love and attention. She always loved her backside "spanked" (little love pats by her tail) but recently, when we would pet her, she would randomly lick the air. WHAT?!? Very odd to see, actually. We thought she had ant bites or mosquito bites because we were allowing her to sit on our balcony to sun her buns.

Then I noticed her biting at her fur and Oliver had started scratching like crazy as well. So, last night I did some research and figured out that our "babies" have fleas. YUCK! GROSS! In the seven years we have had the cats, they have never had a flea, tick or tapeworm. Now, it seems we are infested with them.

Thankfully, we found a wonderful veterinary hospital down the street. Magazine Street Animal Clinic was more than helpful and hooked us up with some Advantage. So, here's a tip to all you animal lovers: if you live in a humid, warm climate like we are now living, you MUST treat your pets for fleas. Apparently, it doesn't get cold enough here to ever freeze and kill the little buggers off so they just grow and multiply and become even more of a pest.

We applied the treatment to their fur and both kitties seem to be much happier. After a thorough mopping and washing every last stitch of fabric in the house, I think we might have killed the beasts. I feel like a bad kitty mommy for not realizing sooner that our cats had such a common problem. I guess that's what we get for being naive to the ways of the swamp lands. I'm learning new things all the time.

Moving and the Cats - MEOUCH!

Our kitties are quite spoiled. If you own a pet, you know all about wanting to take good care of your furry family members and we are no exception. That's why when we made the big move to New Orleans from Amarillo, I drove my car with the kitties and Kevin drove the giant truck by himself.

Alice decided that the back of the car by the speakers was to be her spot the entire trip. It was not a big deal until she decided to get sick down the back of the seat. I guess our "little girl" gets carsick. Poor baby. (See Kevin driving the truck behind us?)

Another interesting thing they both started doing in the car was panting. Now I am used to seeing dogs pant. That's what doggies do. But to see the kitties pant was kind of frightening. I felt like we were in the African desert and there was about to be a stampede or something. Guess that's what we get for moving to the deep south. Heat and panting cats. Very odd.

Here is fluffy, pretty Oliver. He knows he is pretty and tells us this every day. He's particularly happy in this picture - it was Christmas and we had just given them their stocking full of toys. Like I said before, our cats are spoiled.

Alice was, for the most part, pretty chill on the trip. Other than panting and throwing up, she did awesome! Oliver, of course, was another story. We drove to Austin the first day of the trip and stayed with my brother Chris. By the time we had arrived in Austin, Oliver had managed to climb in and out of my lap repeatedly. He also thought it was great fun to try and get into my floorboard and under my feet. It might not have been that big of a deal, except I drive a stick shift and having a cat under your feet while you are trying to shift in rush hour traffic is simply dangerous.

This upset our little prince immensely and he retaliated by smearing poop on me. Gotta love that Oliver! By the time we showed up at Chris's house, I was covered in cat hair and smelled like poop. Yuck!

I decided that we should keep Oliver in the pet carrier for the second day of the trip. But I knew that he would freak out even worse if he realized he was stuck in a cage all day. Therefore, we gave him a tiny, tiny bit of Benadryl before we put him in the carrier. Except when we did that, he started oozing pink foam out of his mouth and was quite angry. I cleaned him up with a wash cloth and helped Kevin wrestle him into his carrier. I figured he really didn't ingest enough of the medicine to really affect him because he was screaming his head off for the first 15 minutes of the trip out of Austin.

Then, it was silent. And he was KNOCKED OUT! I then started having major remorse for doing something so evil to my cat child. I kept on calling his name and trying to wake him up and would occasionally get a weak "arrggg" out of him. I got used to this and was ok with the situation until I started smelling cat pee. (And let me just say, I will take cat poop over cat pee any day.) We stopped at a gas station and I let him out of the carrier to stretch his paws and maybe go to the bathroom (they had a litter box in the back seat), except when he came out of the carrier, he was covered in pee. YUCK. GROSS. GAG!

Luckily, he was still pretty drugged up and didn't fight me going back into the carrier (we cleaned it out first, of course!). We still had about 5 1/2 hours left in our trip and I was just hoping that the medicine would keep him quiet - this cat has some lungs on him - until we could get to our hotel in NOLA.

However, about 2 hours later he woke up. And boy was he angry! I didn't know how I was going to take 3 1/2 more hours of a screaming, smelly cat. So Kev and I stopped at a truck stop and bought liquid Children's Benadryl. And the foaming and the upset started all over again. But it knocked him out again and we were good for the rest of the trip.

Except, he smelled like pee. And he knew it and we knew it and we had to do something about it. So, Oliver got his first people bath since he was a kitten.

And all was right with the world once again.
