Baby Saints

I was listening to NPR this afternoon as I was driving home from work and there was a report on how there has been a decrease in births in America in the past 6 months. Understandable, considering the economy and such.

What made me smile was that New Orleans, unlike the rest of the nation, has been experiencing a recent baby boom. If you do the math, which NPR has done, you will notice a particular conception date - January 24. That means that all the celebrating that was going on when the Saints won the NFC Championship involved a lot of celebrating in *ahem* other ways, too.

The report closed with noting that the increase in births will continue over the next two months. More math = lots more celebrating on that lovely Super Bowl Sunday!

I wonder how many babies will be named Drew or Reggie?

  1. That is hilarious! They were doing some SERIOUS celebrating. You know, come to think of it, my cousin (from Alexandria) is due in December! ;)

  2. You know, the Super Bowl happened and then it was time for Mardi Gras so there were about 3 months of straight partying down in these parts! You should ask your cousin if her due date has anything to do with the Saints! ;)

  3. LOL! I love when people do the math like this and can trace a lot of births back to a common conception date. It's almost always a result of celebrating over some big event. It's pretty hilarious ;)
    Great post, darlin'!

  4. Here comes the Lombardi-Gras generation!! Of course there will be some Drew's and Reggie's. I would be tickled to see boys named Porter, but it would more likely flip the other way as girls named Tracy. There might even be some girls named Payton...but definitely no girls named Peyton. :D
